Unclaimed bag causes bomb scare at Jammu Bus Stand

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 30: Panic briefly gripped the Jammu bus stand this morning after an unattended bag was spotted in a crowded area, triggering a bomb scare and prompting an immediate security response. Officials later confirmed that the bag contained only clothes and had apparently been left behind by a passenger.
The unclaimed bag was detected around 11 AM near one of the concrete pillars at the bus stand. Police officials from the local police station promptly made repeated public announcements requesting the owner to come forward. However, when no one responded, the police acted in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and summoned the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to the spot.
Soon after, police personnel along with the BDS cordoned off the area to prevent any potential risk to commuters and staff. The bomb disposal experts conducted a detailed examination of the bag and found nothing suspicious inside, confirming that there was no explosive or hazardous material.
Following the security clearance, the bag was taken into custody and shifted to the local police station. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the owner of the bag, which officials believe was unintentionally left behind.
Normal movement of buses and passengers resumed at the bus stand once the police lifted the security cordon and declared the area safe.
Meanwhile, officials said security arrangements have been strengthened across the Jammu region in view of the forthcoming New Year celebrations, with heightened vigilance and additional deployment of personnel at key public places to ensure public safety.
