Stop fear-mongering, acknowledge ground reality: Suri

JAMMU, Jan 2: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Raman Suri came down heavily on National Conference (NC) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah for what he described as “reckless, exaggerated and politically motivated statements” over alleged attacks on Kashmiris in other States, cautioning him against creating unnecessary fear and unrest among people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement, Raman Suri said Dr Abdullah was deliberately flaring up stray and isolated incidents to build a false narrative, ignoring the larger reality that lakhs of people from Jammu and Kashmir particularly from the Kashmir Valley are living, working and thriving peacefully across the length and breadth of the country.
“Kashmiris today are selling their products, peddling rickshaws, running businesses, working in private and Government sectors, and pursuing livelihoods with dignity in almost every major city of India. Many have purchased apartments in Faridabad, Gurugram, Delhi, Noida and even Goa, while thousands are employed in Mumbai and other metropolitan cities. Several people regularly seek advanced medical treatment in Delhi and other reputed hospitals,” Suri said.
He warned that making sweeping and sensational remarks, and irresponsibly invoking terms like “Hitler” and “Nazism,” only succeeds in spreading fear among innocent Kashmiris working outside the Union Territory. “Such brazen statements are not in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Instead of protecting them, this kind of rhetoric scares them and creates an atmosphere of distrust and chaos in society,” he added.
