POONCH, Jan 3: The District Poonch Hockey Championship 2025 began today with great enthusiasm at Hockey Astro Turf Ground, BHSS Poonch. The tournament is being organized under the aegis of Hockey J&K, aiming to promote hockey and nurture young talent at the grassroots level.
The championship was inaugurated by DySP HQ Poonch, Neeraj Sharma, who attended the event as chief guest, while Mustaq Ahmed, Incharge Manager, Sports Stadium Poonch, was present as guest of honour.
DySP Neeraj Sharma appreciated Hockey J&K for its continuous efforts in promoting the sport across the Union Territory. He also paid tribute to Late Sham Lal Sharma (Retd. SAI Hockey) for his remarkable contribution to the game.
Several prominent sports personalities and hockey enthusiasts were present on the occasion. The opening ceremony proceedings were conducted by Imran Shah.
On the opening day, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club defeated Power House Hockey Club by 4–3 in a thrilling contest, while Sham Lal Hockey Club registered a 2–1 victory over KI PMDP Hockey Club.
The championship is being conducted under the leadership of Gurdeep Singh and Dr Taran Singh with technical supervision by Adv Sanjeev Kumar.
Matches are being officiated by Harmik Singh, Vikas Sharma, Sunil Raina, Navjot Singh, Saval Ahmed, Ritika Sharma, Jaspreet Kour and Sanjana Yadav.
