A police spokesperson said the verification and checking drive was carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with the Tourist Police Station Srinagar. During the inspection, he said, the establishments found operating without mandatory registration were identified as Cozy Heaven, Sheikhpora near the Armed Complex; Haji Guest House, Humhama near the airport; Sukoonat Gah, ARCO Residency, Humhama; Welcome Homestay, Humhama near the airport; Zabeel Villa, ARCO Residency, Humhama; and Homestay by Ishaan, ARCO Residency.
“Preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 has been initiated against the owners of all six properties,” the spokesperson said.
Police said fines were also imposed on Haji Guest House and Welcome Homestay, which were found to be operating without the mandatory registration.
The spokesperson said that the police have urged owners of homestays and guest houses to ensure compliance with applicable laws and obtain the requisite registration from the competent authorities to avoid legal action. “Such verification drives will continue in the future to ensure adherence to regulations and to maintain safe and lawful tourism practices in the district,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that a Chinese national Hu Congtai recently travelled to Kashmir and stayed in Srinagar in such a facility without visa.
