Jat Sabha raises key issues in one-day convention

JAMMU, Jan 11: A one-day convention of Jat Sabha Jammu (Urban) was organised at Gurdwara Rani Talab, Digiana, which was organised by Dawarka Choudhary and general secretary Harbans Choudhary.
The convention brought together prominent members of the Jat community, including senior citizens, retired officers, and grassroots representatives, many of whom were felicitated for their services to society.
The event was presided over by president, All J&K Jat Sabha, Manjeet Singh, as the chief guest, while former ministers Sukhananda Choudhary and Gharu Choudhary, DDC Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony, former MP Trilok Singh Bajwa, DDC Phallain Mandal – Geetu Choudhary, Jagar Choudhary, former Corporator Ch Surjit Singh Pappu, Naveen Choudhary, and other senior leaders were present.
Addressing the gathering, Manjeet Singh said the Jat community has always played a vital role in nation-building but continues to face neglect in decision-making bodies. He demanded that a senior advocate from the Jat community be appointed as a judge in the Supreme Court of India, stating that adequate representation at the highest judicial level is long overdue. He also stressed the need for unity within the Sabha, saying internal differences must not weaken the collective voice of the community.
Taranjit Singh Tony strongly advocated for the implementation of OBC status for Jats at the Central level, stating that despite repeated assurances, the community has been denied its constitutional rights while Gharu Choudhary emphasised the need for administrative representation and demanded that a member from the Jat community be inducted into the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC).
Trilok Singh Bajwa highlighted the challenges faced by youth in border areas and demanded special recruitment drives for residents of border belts, citing unemployment, migration, and lack of opportunities as serious concerns. He said the government must frame targeted employment policies for border districts.
Sukhananda Choudhary called upon the community to remain politically aware and socially united, stating that fragmentation weakens bargaining power. He stressed that Jat Sabha must function as a non-political but issue-based platform focused on education, employment, and social justice.
DDC Phallain Mandal Geetu Choudhary, former Corporator Ch Surjit Singh Pappu,    Jagar Choudhary and Naveen Choudhary also spoke on the occasion. On the occasion Manjeet Singh announced Mandeep Singh Choudhary as State president of the Youth Wing with the responsibility to constitute youth bodies until the next elections while Shubham Choudhary as Jammu District Urban Youth president.
