SRINAGAR, Jan 18: As part of its sustained campaign against drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police scored a significant breakthrough today with the arrest of a notorious drug peddler and the recovery of 1.6 kilograms of heroin.
Acting on routine surveillance, a team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a suspicious individual near the Sewage Treatment Plant in Munwarabad. A search of his belongings yielded two packets containing approximately 1.6 kilograms of heroin.
The arrested individual has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hussain Dar, a resident of Ichgam in the Budgam district.
Following the seizure, police registered FIR No. 04/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Khanyar. The accused remains in custody as investigations continue to trace the source of the contraband and unravel the wider trafficking network involved.
In an official statement, Srinagar Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to combat the narcotics trade and urged public cooperation in rooting out the menace. Citizens were asked to come forward with any information pertaining to drug abuse or illicit trafficking to aid in effectively curbing this social evil.
