JAMMU, Jan 18: Laxmi Cricket Club emerged victorious in the final of the Rajinder Saini & Sandeep Singh Memorial Under-16 (T-30) Cricket Tournament, defeating MIER Cricket Club by a convincing margin of 85 runs at Parade Ground, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Laxmi Cricket Club scored 197 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 30 overs. Skipper Gurtaj Singh played a captain’s knock of 60 runs, laced with one six and six boundaries. Tanseef Yousaf contributed 33 runs with one six and five boundaries, while Nidhiranjan added 16 runs. Sam and Krishna of MIER bowled well, picking up three wickets each.
In reply, MIER Cricket Club managed only 112 runs in 24.1 overs. Rudra Mani top scored with 34 runs, including five boundaries. Tazim Imtiyaz starred for Laxmi with the ball, claiming five wickets to seal the match and was adjudged Player of the Match.
The prize distribution function was held after the match in the presence of several eminent personalities. Ramesh Chander Gupta, senior Ranji Trophy player and Chief Patron of Laxmi Cricket Club, presided over the function, while Desh Rattan Dubey was the chief guest. The winners’ trophy was presented to the Laxmi Cricket Club skipper and the runners-up trophy to MIER Cricket Club along with individual prizes for outstanding performances during the tournament.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred upon senior members Ramesh Chander Pargal, Kewal Krishan Gupta, Randhir Singh Jamwal and Vijay Sabarwal. A guest of honour souvenir was presented to former J&K Ranji player Sanjay Sharma. National Achievement Award was given to Sameer Khajuria, head coach of the J&K Under-16 team which won the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Souvenirs were also presented to Manisha Saini and Sandeep Kour, wives of the late Rajinder Saini and Sandeep Singh. Dr Anil K. Mahajan highlighted the club’s role in promoting cricket and Pawan Gupta presented the vote of thanks.
