SRINAGAR, Jan 18: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah lauded the efforts of Omar Abdullah-led Government in revitalizing Jammu and Kashmir tourism sector, a critical pillar of the region’s economy.
He said this in a press release issued from the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha. Dr. Farooq highlighted that the revival of tourism has been instrumental in the region’s economic recovery. He credited the Omar Abdullah administration for his visionary leadership in restoring confidence, ensuring security, and re-establishing Jammu and Kashmir as a premier tourist destination.
“I commend Omar’s leadership in restoring tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. The steps taken by his Government have not only revitalised the sector but have also brought hope and prosperity, especially to local tourism stakeholders,” Dr. Farooq said.
However, Dr. Farooq called on the Government and authorities concerned to review the closure of certain areas in Kashmir, particularly those affected by the Pahalgam attack. He expressed concern over the adverse impact of these closures on local businesses and livelihoods.
“The tragic Pahalgam attack dealt a blow to tourism but it’s time to move forward. I urge the authorities to consider reopening more areas for tourism. The people of Kashmir have a deep bond with their land and tourism is crucial for employment and economic upliftment. Reopening these destinations will not only restore the tourism sector but also send a positive message globally,” he added.
He called for continued dialogue with all stakeholders, local communities, tourism operators and authorities to ensure sustainable growth in the sector.
