Teacher suspended in student’s suicide case

DODA, Jan 21: The Government has ordered suspension of a teacher in the recent suicide case of a student in Doda district and a probe has also been ordered into the matter.
An order issued by Commissioner Secretary (Higher Education Department), Ram Niwas Sharma stated that the suspended teacher, Assistant Professor (Commerce), Manzoor Ahmad will remain suspended until the inquiry is completed and he will remain attached with the office of the Director Colleges Higher Education till further orders.
The government has also constituted a three-member committee headed by Director Colleges, Sheikh Aijaz Bashir to probe the matter and the committee will furnish its report within seven days.
It is pertinent to mention here that Saba Banoo, 19, a student of Government Degree College, Doda, allegedly jumped into Chenab River at Pul Doda on January 16, after she was allegedly scolded by her teachers for possessing a mobile phone during an exam.
Body of the girl remained untraced despite efforts by cops and others.
