RAJOURI, Jan 24: Former Minister and vice president of Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party, Chaudhary Zulfkar Ali, has expressed serious concern over the closure of roads in the Darhal-Budhal area of district Rajouri due to heavy snowfall and incessant rainfall.
In a statement issued here today, Zulfkar said that he has received numerous telephonic calls from residents of various villages of the Budhal Assembly Constituency, who informed him that the Rajouri-Budhal main road, which connects the area with the district headquarters, has remained closed for the last two days, causing immense hardship to the people.
He stated that due to heavy snowfall, public infrastructure has suffered significant damage. The power supply has been severely disrupted, while all interior roads of the constituency are badly affected and several areas have been completely cut off from the sub-divisional headquarters Kotranka and district headquarters Rajouri. He further added that water supply and internet connectivity have also been adversely affected in the region.
Zulfkar Ali emphasized that the situation has badly affected patients, students, elderly people, and daily commuters, who are facing tremendous difficulties due to lack of road connectivity and essential services.
He urged the District administration Rajouri to expedite the process of clearing roads and ensure immediate restoration of essential utilities, including electricity, water supply, and internet services. He also appealed to the administration to temporarily close all educational institutions in the affected areas until weather conditions improve and road connectivity is fully restored, in order to ensure the safety of students.
Former Minister further stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities so that people do not suffer due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions.
