JAMMU: The students, who have been protesting for last several days demanding mass promotion in class X, once again created ruckus in Jammu on Monday. To highlight their demand, they tried to block Tawi Bridge but police contingent deployed on spot foiled their attempt and stopped them near Dogra Chowk.
On the occasion, police took into custody mother of a protesting student, who has came there along with her child, while other children were forced to sit in police bus, thereby foiling their attempt to close the bridge. These students, who were declared unsuccessful in class-X exams of Jammu and Kashmir Education Board, have been continuously protesting for last many days demanding mass promotion for all. Earlier also, these students held a demonstration by closing Tawi Bridge while one of them even attempted suicide by jumping from bridge, but was timely stopped by police.
On Monday, when police received information that students are going to hold protest by closing Tawi bridge again, Police team rushed to the spot and stopped at Dogra Chowk. “We are being threatened by police officers that they will spoil our record and we will not get job anywhere,” one of the protesting girl student said.
When students did not follow instructions of police, they were forcibly taken in a bus to the District Police Lines, where they were released after some time.
Meanwhile Tehsildar Jammu Khas, Kamalpreet Singh, who reached the spot during demonstration, told media that the administration is trying to fulfill demand of the children. “Board had declared result on basis of two papers. We are trying to take only two papers of unsuccessful students and if they will clear them, they will be declared successful like other students,” he said, adding, “Children are demanding mass promotion and administration is also talking to board about it but the decision in this regard will be taken by board itself.”
