JAMMU, Jan 27: Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir, Chowdry Mohd Ramzan, today raised a series of key political, humanitarian and economic issues concerning the Union Territory during an all-party meeting of floor leaders of different political parties in Parliament.
The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and attended by Union Health Minister and Leader of the Rajya Sabha J P Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State M Murugan, along with floor leaders of all major political parties.
During the meeting, Ch Ramzan, strongly articulated a series of pressing concerns related to the Union Territory, drawing attention to governance, civil liberties, economic distress and social issues.
Raising the issue of restoration of statehood to J&K, Ramzan said that despite a massive democratic mandate, the elected government is not being allowed to function independently and discharge its constitutional responsibilities towards the people. He emphasized that prolonged delay in restoring statehood is undermining democratic governance in the region.
The MP also demanded the repatriation of prisoners lodged outside J&K so that they can access legal assistance as per law. He further called for the release of prisoners involved in minor offences, citing humanitarian grounds.
Expressing concern over reports of harassment, Ramzan urged the Government to ensure the safety and dignity of labourers, students and traders across the country, particularly in the aftermath of the recent Delhi bomb blast.
Highlighting economic distress, he sought waiver of Kisan Credit Card loans of farmers due to prolonged closure of the National Highway for over a month and losses caused by natural calamities such as hailstorms and untimely rainfall. He also demanded suspension of interest and recovery of loans availed by the tourism industry following the Pahalgam attack.
Ch Ramzan further called for a relook at contributions demanded from economically weaker states like J&K under the Gram Rozgar programme (MGNREGA), stating that poor states should not be burdened disproportionately.
