Two held with heroin-like substance in Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, Jan 29: Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested with 20.72 grams of heroin-like substance worth approximately Rs 80,000 from Gandhi Nagar area here today, a police official said.
During a naka checking operation near Karan Enterprises in Gandhi Nagar locality, a police team led by PSI Zubair Manzoor intercepted two suspicious persons and, during their personal search, 20.72 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered, he said.
According to the police official, one accused was found carrying 13.05 grams of the contraband along with a digital weighing machine, cash and a mobile phone, while second accused was found in possession of 7.67 grams of heroin-like substance and cash.
He said the police also seized a vehicle used for transporting the narcotics.
The police official added that a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and BNS has been registered against the accused, identified as Sonu Randhawa and Shanu Matoo, both residents of Valmiki Colony, Gandhi Nagar, at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and both have been arrested.
Quoting the initial investigation, he said that it came to the fore that the accused were involved in selling small quantities of heroin to local youth.
According to him, the main accused Sonu Randhawa is a history-sheeter with several criminal cases registered against him, while the co-accused Shanu Mattoo is also involved in a previous criminal case.
“The seized contraband is valued at around Rs 80000,” the police official said.
