JAMMU, Jan 30: Different organisations here today observed Martyrs’ Day and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the independence and unity of the country.
Government Degree College (GDC) Marh observed Martyrs’ Day with patriotic spirit and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and all freedom fighters of the country. On this occasion, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Sachin Kumar Bhagat briefed the students on the historical significance of Martyrs’ Day and highlighted the invaluable sacrifices made by the freedom fighters in shaping independent India. A short documentary film on Mahatma Gandhi and the freedom struggle was also screened which was followed by a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the martyrs. The event was organized by Dr. Madhavi Prasher, Prof. Malti Rajput and Ravi Kumar.
To mark the Martyrs’ Day, GDC Ramkote observed 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation. The event concluded with observation of two minutes silence. Faculty present on the occasion included Prof. Pankaj Nandan, Prof. Suresh Chander, Prof. Anu Sharma, Prof. Vasundra Raje, Kuldeep, Krishan Singh and Rajinder Kumar.
GDC Thannamandi, in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports, Thannamandi, organized sports activities and a seminar under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyr’s Day. Table Tennis and Carom Board matches were organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal of the College. Dr. Ashaq Malik delivered the keynote lecture, Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, conducted the proceedings and Dr. Naseem Malik, presented vote of thanks.
On Martyrs’ Day, commemorating the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Department of History, GDC Ramnagar under the patronage of Dr. (Prof.) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal and under the supervision of Prof. Manmohan Singh, Head, Department of History, organised a symposium on the theme ‘Gandhian Ideals and Their Relevance in Contemporary India’. The event concluded with a brief address by Prof. Manmohan Singh.
On Martyrs’ Day, District Police Ramban observed a two minute silence and all the Police establishments across the district paid homage to the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of the nation. The solemn tribute was led by the SSP Ramban, who joined the Nafri at District Police Lines Ramban in observing the silence.
