Qazigund, Feb 3: A fireman was injured after a massive fire broke out at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Qazigund on Tuesday morning, completely gutting the school building and causing extensive damage.
An official said that Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched firefighting operations to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
During the operations, one F&ES personnel fell from the roof and sustained minor injuries. Medical Superintendent of Emergency Hospital Qazigund, Dr. Shagufta Salam, said the injured firefighter is being treated for minor injuries and has been referred to GMC Anantnag for further care.
The cause of the fire has not been immediately determined, and an assessment of the losses is currently underway. (KNC)
