JAMMU, Feb 5: Farmers of Jammu and Kashmir, is the most suffering community and they require special treatment by the Govt of India but it was unfortunate that they are being ignored by the successive Central Governments.
This was stated by Bharat Priye, Chairman Kissan Congress Department of JKPCC, while interacting with the media personnel here today at PCC office Jammu. He said that farmers residing along the border area face lot of hardships due to border firing as well as army activities , they cannot plough their fields in time and on many occasions their crops are being destroyed besides in hilly areas of the state, their farming activities affected due to natural calamity.
But they are not getting adequate compensation for the loss of crops and live property.
The seed and fertilizers and other farming material is very costly and were expecting some relief in the 2026 budget. But it was very unfortunate, there was no mention of Kissans in the budget.
Bharat said that Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has been regularly raising the issues of farmers in the Lok Sabha but ruling party continuously create hurdles and disrupts Parliament.
He said the action of BJP Govt to finish the MGNREGA Scheme will also add more in the problems of poor farmers. He said that despite the importance of agriculture to the Indian economy, farmers often struggle to earn a decent income. Agricultural produce is sold at very low prices, while the cost of production keeps increasing due to rising prices of inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.
Bahrat said Minimum Support Price (MSP) announced by the Hovernment often does not cover the production cost, leaving farmers with little or no profit. Additionally, the involvement of middlemen in the supply chain reduces the price farmers receive for their produce, further limiting their earnings.
He demanded that KCC loans of J&K farmers should be waived off and an adequate compensation be sanctioned in favour of those farmers whose crops and livestock including cattle washed away and damaged due to recent rains, landslides, storm and snowfall.
