3-family members arrested in Srinagar with heroin

SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Police today arrested three notorious drug peddlers belonging to the same family from the Khanyar area of Srinagar and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin from their possession.
A police spokesperson said the arrested persons have been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir; Muskan Gulzar Mir, daughter of Gulzar Ahmad Mir; and Ubaid Gulzar, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir. All are residents of Baghi Roop Singh, Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar.
The spokesperson said that acting on specific information, a police team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK01 AW 8898. During the search of the vehicle, police recovered a substantial quantity of heroin, a banned narcotic substance, valued at lakhs of rupees. “The vehicle used in the commission of the offence has also been seized,” the spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were actively involved in supplying narcotic drugs in Srinagar and had generated substantial illegal proceeds through drug trafficking. The seized vehicle was reportedly purchased from the proceeds of this illicit trade.
Police said that accordingly FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8/21-29 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act has been registered at Police Station Khanyar.
The spokesperson added that further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the drug network. “A comprehensive financial investigation is also being conducted to identify and attach properties acquired through the illegal proceeds of crime,” he said.
