Vehicle carrying mixed scrap penalised Rs 8.96 lakh for GST violations

UDHAMPUR, Feb 5: The State Taxes Enforcement Team, Udhampur, today intercepted a vehicle carrying mixed scrap and recovered a penalty amounting to Rs. 8,96,128 for violations under the GST provisions.
The interception was made possible through data analysis of the e-Way Bill portal and RFID tracking.
The enforcement action was executed by a team headed by GST Inspector Mohit Jamwal, assisted by Sub-Inspectors Rajesh Singh Batla, Rakesh Kharka, Mohsin Riaz and Guards Barket Ali and Sandesh Singh, under the close supervision and guidance of Anil Kumar Chandail, Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes Enforcement, Jammu North.
Preliminary verification revealed serious irregularities in the movement of goods, indicating deliberate attempts to evade tax and misuse the GST framework.
The penalty actions particularly on big catches taken by the team were appreciated by P.K Bhat, Commissioner, State Taxes Department, J&K, who stated that the enforcement measures are balanced, fair and mature.
Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Administration & Enforcement), Jammu, also lauded the team.
