Revising plan for new MCCH Anantnag: Govt

JAMMU, Feb 6: The Government today said it is revising the financial roadmap of the proposed 249-bedded Mother and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) at Janglat Mandi, Anantnag, after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was returned by the Finance Department.
In a written reply to a question by MLA Reyaz Ahmad Khan, the Government said that the Paediatric Department has already been shifted to the ground floor of Block-A at MMABM Hospital.
It said the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) Department continues to function from the old Maternal and Child Care Hospital at Sher Bagh and will be shifted once the required infrastructure is completed at the newly identified site.
The Government said a 4.5-kanal plot behind Block-A of MMABM Hospital at Janglat Mandi has been identified for the project.
“For this purpose, the Public Works (R&B) Department has prepared a DPR for construction of a 249-bedded MCCH at Anantnag at an estimated cost of Rs 86.15 crore,” the reply said.
It added that the DPR was submitted to the Finance Department for financial concurrence and administrative approval under NABARD RIDF-XXXI, but the proposal was returned.
“The Finance Department advised identification of a clear funding source other than NABARD and inclusion of furniture and furnishing components in the DPR, following which the concerned PWD division is working out the revised financial implications,” the Government said.
However, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to shift the existing Child and Maternity Hospital from Sher Bagh to a new, modern facility.
The reply further said that Rs 5 crore has already been earmarked for the project under the Capex Budget 2025-26.
“The department also intends to propose the project under SASCI in 2026-27 as an additional funding source to fast-track its completion, given its large scale,” it added.
