JAMMU, Feb 7: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a corruption case against a former Tehsildar over alleged misuse of his official position and demand of illegal gratification.
Maeen Azhar Kakroo, then Tehsildar, Srinagar South, has been booked in case FIR number 03/2026 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar on the basis of a complaint regarding illegal encroachment and alleged bribery linked to restoration and demarcation of land during 2021, an ACB official said.
He said during verification, it was found that land measuring 4 kanals 9 Marlas 165 square feet, including survey number 998/54 at Gulbahar Colony, Hyderpora, was recorded in the names of several individuals, including the complainant.
The accused allegedly demanded illegal gratification for facilitating restoration of 14 marlas of the land, he said. Click here to watch video
He said the verification further revealed that a second-hand Mahindra Rexton 4×4 vehicle was allegedly accepted as a bribe, with payments reportedly made through banking transactions from the complainant’s Paytm account linked with J&K Bank, Batamaloo.
After restoration, the land was sold by the complainant in January 2022 to a private purchaser and is presently under her possession, he said.
Following registration of the FIR, he said, the ACB conducted searches at two residential locations of the accused after obtaining warrants from the court.
The searches were carried out at his residence at Kanil Bagh, Azad Road in Baramulla and at Rose Avenue Colony, Gazalla Abad, HMT area in Srinagar, he said, adding that during the searches, incriminating material including revenue records and financial and bank documents were recovered and seized.
Meanwhile, further investigation in the case is underway, he said.
