RAJOURI, Feb 9: Daily wage and casual employees of the Jal Shakti Department today staged a protest demonstration in Rajouri, expressing strong resentment over the budget presented by the Omar Abdullah-led government, which they termed as “anti-employee” and unacceptable.
The protesting workers alleged that the budget has completely ignored the long-pending demands of daily wagers and casual employees, including regularization, wage enhancement, and job security. They said that despite rendering years of dedicated service, their issues continue to remain unaddressed.
Addressing the gathering, employee representatives stated that the budget has disappointed thousands of workers across Jammu and Kashmir and has failed to provide any concrete relief to daily wage employees. They warned that continued neglect would force them to intensify their agitation.
The protesting employees announced that if their demands are not addressed, they will go on a strike on February 11 and march to Jammu, where they will `Gherao’ the Civil Secretariat to press for immediate redressal of their demands.
They appealed to the JKUT Government to take serious note of their grievances and initiate meaningful dialogue at the earliest to avoid further escalation of the protest.
