WASHINGTON, Feb 10 : The United States has sent a shipment of M1117 armored vehicles to Colombia following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Colombian President Gustavo Petro, the US embassy in Bogota said on Monday.
According to the embassy, since 2021, the United States has provided Colombia with 145 armored vehicles worth more than $117 million.
“Accompanied by the Commander of the Colombian Army, Major General Royer G?mez Herrera, the Charg? d’Affaires, John McNamara, delivered 11 M1117 armored vehicles to support the army’s efforts in fight against the narco-terrorist organisations that cause so much harm to our peoples,” the embassy said on X.
Last week, Petro and Trump held a meeting at the White House. As a result of their meeting, the two presidents agreed to eliminate leaders of Colombian drug rebel groups, Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said.
