JAMMU, Feb 13: Mission Shakti, District Hub for Empowerment of Women Jammu, Department of Social Welfare, organized an awareness session on menstrual hygiene at Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor with the objective of promoting health, dignity, and overall well-being among adolescent girls and young women.
The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of DSWO Jammu Dr. Preeti Sharma and District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti Shagun Manchanda. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, reflecting a collective commitment to breaking the silence around menstrual health.
The awareness programme aimed to dispel myths and taboos associated with menstruation while encouraging open and informed discussions on menstrual hygiene practices. The resource person, Dr. Manisha Gupta emphasized the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene, consuming a balanced diet, and seeking timely medical consultation to prevent infections and anemia. Special focus was also laid on the safe and hygienic use and disposal of sanitary products.
Gender Specialist Khushboo Kapthe sensitized the participants about various Government schemes and helpline numbers available for women and girls, ensuring that they are informed about the support systems accessible to them.
An interactive question-and-answer session added value to the programme, with students actively raising queries and sharing their experiences, making the event both informative and engaging. Sanitary napkins were also distributed by Mission Shakti during the session.
The Principal of GDC Akhnoor Dr Romila Mala Bhat appreciated the initiative undertaken by Mission Shakti and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting awareness programmes that empower young women through knowledge, confidence, and informed choices.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr Anju Bala Convener Women study Centre.Others present were Dr Deepika Gupta, Dr Monika Malhotra, Dr Savita Jamwal, Dr Sandhya Rani, Dr Deepali Mahajan, Prof Neelam Thapa, Dr Deep Kumar Bangotra, Dr Amit Kumar, Dr Rimjhim Gupta, Dr Neha Uttam,Dr Sohnika ,Dr Shahida, Ms Simran Batra Account Assistant Mission Shakti.
