NC, others should trust Union Govt on Statehood: Balbir

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 18: Balbir Ram Rattan, Jammu Kashmir BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman, today said that the National Conference (NC) and other political parties should have faith in the repeated assurances given by the Union Government regarding the restoration of Statehood to the Union Territory.
Reacting to the recent statement of Union Minister, of State for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, who during his recent visit to Srinagar reiterated that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir would be restored as soon as possible, Balbir Ram Rattan said that such categorical assertions should put all doubts to rest.
He pointed out that the Union Home Minister has already made a clear commitment on the floor of Parliament regarding the restoration of Statehood at an appropriate time.
“When the assurance has been given in Parliament and is being consistently reiterated by Union Ministers, there is no reason for any political party to mislead the people by creating unnecessary suspicion,” he said.
Balbir Ram Rattan emphasized that the Union Government has demonstrated its sincerity through its sustained efforts to strengthen grassroots democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. He cited the successful conduct of Panchayat and District Development Council elections, record developmental spending, improved infrastructure, and enhanced security as indicators of the Centre’s commitment to stability and progress in the region.
The priority at present is to ensure lasting peace, transparent governance, and holistic development. Statehood will follow as promised. Political maturity demands patience and constructive cooperation rather than repetitive rhetoric, he added.
