JAMMU, Feb 18: Nominated Rajya Sabha MP, Gulam Ali Khatana of BJP has justified his allocation of MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds to Uttar Pradesh.
“As a nominated member of Rajya Sabha, I am constitutionally empowered to allocate funds anywhere in the country in the national interest,” he told a news channel dismissing the allegations raised in J&K over his decision to allocate a significant portion of his MPLADS funds to UP.
“My funds are for the nation and not for political boundaries,” the MP said.
He also said: “Am I required to seek permission from Congress or NC before allocating funds? I am a nominated MP and every rupee of my MPLADS fund will serve the people of India.”
Khatana emphasized that nominated members are not bound to a specific geographical constituency and therefore retain the authority to allocate funds wherever developmental needs exist.
