Jammu, Feb 19: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Thursday termed “Operation Thrashy” a significant breakthrough by security forces, asserting that intensified operations will soon yield further success against militants operating in parts of Jammu region.
Speaking to reporters, Sharma said that for a long time security forces were engaged in frequent encounters and exchanges of fire without achieving major success, but the recent breakthrough has “opened a new gate” in anti-terror operations.
He said militants hiding in areas such as Doda, Ramban, Udhampur, Machhedi and Kathua would be “answered in their own language,” adding that security forces have stepped up operations and results will be visible in the coming days.
Raising concerns over local support networks, Sharma said action is being intensified against overground worker (OGW) structures and what he described as “sophisticated modules” aiding terrorism, including through digital platforms. He claimed the Union Government and the Home Ministry have taken strict measures and warned that anyone found involved, even at a minor level, would face serious consequences as per law.
Sharma also welcomed the recent order issued by the Deputy Commissioner regarding regulation of donation collection during Ramadan, saying the step was taken following credible inputs to prevent misuse of charitable funds for unlawful or anti-national activities.
Calling the move “commendable,” he said safeguards are necessary to ensure that religious donations such as Zakat are not diverted for subversive purposes.
The LoP further reiterated his party’s commitment to establishing a National Law University in Jammu, stating that efforts would continue to ensure the institution is brought to the region. (KNC)
