JAMMU, Feb 20: Handball Association India (HAI) has appointed former India captain Ranjit Singh Chib as President of the Indian Veteran Handball Association, recognizing his distinguished contribution to the sport. A retired Senior Superintendent of Police and current President of the Jammu and Kashmir Masters Games Association, Chib represented the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Team and the Indian National Handball Team from 1984 to 2002.
During his career, he won 9 Gold, 10 Silver and 4 Bronze medals in National Championships and was named Best Player at Inter Zonal Championships in Varanasi, Nagpur, Jammu and Vishakapatnam. He also captained India at the 7th Asian Handball Championship in Bahrain (1993) and represented the country in several international tournaments, including the South Asian Handball Championship in Jaipur, where India secured Gold.
Chib has been honoured with the Sher-i-Kashmir Sports Award (1987) and the first state award (2006). HAI Secretary General Dr Tejraj Singh expressed confidence that under Chib’s guidance, veteran handball will achieve new milestones.
