SRINAGAR, Feb 21: The Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) today urged the J&K Government to initiate the process of regularisation of daily wagers in a time-bound manner to ensure that the long-pending issue is resolved once and for all.
In a statement issued here, Senior Trade Union leader and EJAC president Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam said the assurance given by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on the floor of the Legislative Assembly regarding regularisation is a welcome step and has rekindled hope among thousands of daily wagers across J&K.
Shabnam said that although the decision has come late, it has emerged as a ray of hope for daily wagers who have been “crying hoarse” and struggling for years for their regularisation.
He stressed that the Government must now fulfil its commitment and honour its own decision without further delay.
Describing the issue as humanitarian in nature, the EJAC president said this category of employees has suffered immensely along with their families due to prolonged uncertainty.
He urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the regularisation process is initiated and completed within a fixed timeframe so that justice is delivered to the affected workers.
