Srinagar, Feb 24: The J&K Students Association (JKSA) has written to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), seeking urgent intervention and postponement of key medical examinations for Indian students in Iran following the advisory issued by the Embassy of India in Tehran.
In a formal representation addressed to the Ministry, the Association referred to the advisory “advising Indian nationals in Iran to return to India in view of the evolving situation,” and said it had been receiving “a large number of calls and messages from Indian students currently pursuing their education in Iran.”
National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, said the advisory, though timely and necessary, has created deep uncertainty among students who are in the middle of crucial examinations.
“While we sincerely appreciate the Government’s timely advisory and its continued commitment to safeguarding Indian citizens abroad, we have been receiving a large number of calls and messages from Indian students currently pursuing their education in Iran,” Khuehami said.
He pointed out that apart from ongoing semester examinations in several universities, two Iran-wide national examinations of critical importance – the Uloompaya (Comprehensive Basic Science Examination) and the Pre-Internship Examination – are scheduled for March 5, 2026.
“In addition to the ongoing semester examinations in several universities, there are two Iran-wide national examinations of critical importance… Both of these examinations are conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran and are mandatory milestones in the medical academic pathway,” he said.
Khuehami said students have conveyed that there is little likelihood of postponement.
“Students have informed us that their respective universities… have conveyed that there is very little likelihood of postponement of the scheduled examinations,” he said.
The Association noted that in such circumstances, an abrupt departure may severely impact their academic year, professional progression, and future career plans.
“This has created considerable anxiety not only among the students but also among their families in India.”
In the letter, the Association urged the MEA to issue clear guidance for students whose examinations are imminent.
