SRINAGAR: Srinagar District hosted the UT level championship in Kerela’s traditional martial arts-Kalarippayattu at IDPS, Zakura, here under the banner of Kalarippayattu Association of Jammu and Kashmir.
In this three-day long event, 180 participants, drawn from 14 districts of J&K, displayed the basic techniques of Chuvadukal, High Kick and Long Stick Fighting, a handout issued by the Association here today informed.
The participating districts included Jammu, Samba, Doda, Kishtwar, Srinagar, Shopian, Budgam, Bandipora, Baramulla, Anantnag, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Pulwama and Poonch.
Former Director Doordarshan, Salam Din Bajad was the Chief Guest while founder of the game in J&K, Tarsem Sharma was Guest of Honour. Tariq Gani, Nazir Makdoomi, Kamal ud Din Zamani (Principal, IDPS Srinagar), Danish Sharma (General Secretary) and Salam Din Bajad were special guests. Members of the organising committee comprised Arshad Aziz, Shabir Lone and Sajad.
