Srinagar, Feb 26: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday urged graduating students of the University of Kashmir to align their ambitions with national development, asserting that education must create responsible citizens equipped with character, competence and commitment.
Addressing the 21st Convocation ceremony, LG Sinha said the occasion symbolised not merely the award of degrees but the transformation of generations and the strengthening of society’s faith in modern education. He congratulated medal winners, scholars, faculty members and parents for their collective contribution to academic excellence.
Highlighting the remarkable performance of women students, the Lieutenant Governor noted that 186 out of 249 gold medals and 108 out of 164 PhDs were secured by girls, calling it a powerful reflection of changing social realities. He said when provided equal opportunities, women not only excel but lead from the front, setting new benchmarks across disciplines.
Underscoring the evolving global landscape, Sinha observed that rapid technological advancements, artificial intelligence and digital transformation are reshaping higher education and career pathways. He emphasised that adaptability, interdisciplinary learning and continuous skill development are essential to remain relevant in an unpredictable world.
“Learning cannot end with a degree. It must become a lifelong pursuit,” he said, urging students to embrace innovation and see change as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the ethical use of emerging technologies, saying that while artificial intelligence can accelerate research and innovation, it must be guided by moral responsibility and human intelligence.
Calling upon graduates to contribute meaningfully to society, LG Sinha said education is the most powerful instrument of transformation and carries with it a larger responsibility towards nation-building. He encouraged the youth to pursue excellence not only for personal success but for collective progress.
Reiterating his message of national commitment, he told students that the country has invested in their education with great hope and expectation. “When you dedicate your knowledge and skills to the nation, you strengthen both yourself and the country,” he said, expressing confidence that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future.
