SRINAGAR, Mar 1 Thousands of protestors took to the streets today in several parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar city, against the killing of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel strike.
The protests broke out in areas with a large Shia population and the protestors marched through the streets peacefully and were shouting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans.
Iranian supreme leader Khamenei was killed in an attack by Israel and the United States and as Iran officially confirmed his killing protests broke out in Kashmir where there is sizable Shia population. Click here to watch vaideo
Protests were held at Lal Chowk, Saida Kadal, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag and Pulwama areas of the Valley.
The Shia mourners held a protest in city Centre Lal Chowk for several hours and dispersed in the evening.
A large number of protesters also assembled outside the United Nations Military Observer Group office at Sonwar, raising slogans against the United States and Israel and urging the United Nations to take action against those responsible for the killing.
The protests disrupted normal life in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley with the Srinagar-Baramulla section of National Highway remaining shut for several hours as thousands of Shia mourners had come on the highway to protest.
Security forces were deployed at key locations to maintain order. Senior officers, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Inspector General of Police Kashmir and SSP Srinagar, were seen monitoring the situation on the ground.
Police personnel allowed protesters to express their grief while ensuring the demonstrations remained peaceful.
Meanwhile, J&K Police issued an advisory urging media houses, journalists, social media users and digital platforms to exercise responsibility while reporting on law-and-order developments.
Authorities advised verification of information related to public gatherings and security matters through credible and official sources before publication.
The advisory warned that circulation of rumours or unverified reports could create panic and disturb public peace, and urged the media to refrain from sensationalism.Meanwhile, to protest against the killing of supreme head of Iranian Government, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei massive demonstrations were held at various places across Jammu region today by the members of Shia Sect of Muslims.
The protestors wailing and beating their chests condemned both Israel and US blaming them of suppressing the voice of Muslims across the world. The protestors with portraits of Khamenei in their hands were sobbing and wailing terming it another Karbala. They said US and Israel repeated the Karbala in Iran and they are trying to suppress the voice of Muslims. They termed Khamenei a martyr who fought till his last breath for Islam.
The protestors were raising slogans against the US President, Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Nitanyahu. Hundreds of members of Shia sect of Muslims assembled at Karbala here near DC Office wearing black dress and raising their protest against the attack on Iran by US and Israel. They marched up to Shaheedi Chowk showing their utter resentment and grief over the killing of Shia leader and head of Iranian Government.
The Shia leaders, while talking to reporters said that entire peace loving people across world including Hindus , Muslims and Sikhs have condemned the US attacks on Iran. They said the other countries should join hands against the barbarism of Israel and US otherwise it will be their turn tomorrow.
Massive protest was also held at Bhatindi near here also in which hundreds of Shia mourners with banners and portrait of Khamenei in their hands took part. They were raising slogans against the barbarism and highhandedness of US Israel saying that the capitalist block is trying to suppress the developing nations of the world. They said that the killing of supreme leader of Iran has hurt the sentiments of people across the world.
Reports reaching here said that protests by Shia sect of Muslims were held at Poonch and Ramban also in which large number of mourners participated.
A massive mourning and protest procession was held inKargil today, organized by the Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil Ladakh (JUIAK) Ladakh. Thousands of mourners from various villages converged at Isna Ashriya Chowk to express their grief following reports of the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in attacks by the United States and Israel.
The procession, led by JUIAK president Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, began in the early morning from respective villages. Participants marched through the Main Bazaar of Kargil, raising powerful slogans including, “Hussain, Hussain is our slogan” , “Martyrdom is our pride”.
The march concluded peacefully at Inqilab Manzil (Qatilgha-e-Hussaini), where a condolence gathering and prayers were held.
