DC Ramban reviews NH-44 four-laning works

RAMBAN, Mar 1: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan today conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing four-laning works on the National Highway 44 from Nashri to Banihal, reviewing progress and addressing bottlenecks in execution.
The inspection was carried out in the presence of Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, officers of the district administration and representatives of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The DC undertook an extensive tour of the Ramban-Banihal stretch, inspecting key locations including the Digdol tunnels (SBT 3 km and NBT 2.5 km), Panthyal, and major viaducts at Magarkote, Gangroo, Nachilana and Kishtwari Pather.
During the visit, he assessed the pace of work on tunnels, viaducts and bridges, slope stabilization measures and other allied infrastructure components being developed under the prestigious four-laning project aimed at ensuring all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.
Reviewing the progress, the DC directed NHAI officials and engineers to expedite the construction of tunnels and viaducts between Ramban and Banihal and ensure their completion within stipulated timelines. He emphasized strict adherence to quality standards, stating that no compromise on workmanship would be tolerated.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected vulnerable spots along the highway stretch that are prone to landslides and shooting stones. He stressed the urgent need to strengthen protection measures, including construction of retaining and breast walls, installation of safety barriers and development of proper drainage systems to safeguard commuters and prevent traffic disruptions, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Highlighting the significance of the project, he said the infrastructure upgrades are crucial for smooth and safe transportation, reduction in travel time and enhancement of overall road safety.
Later, the DC reviewed various developmental and protection works underway in Ramban town. He inspected drainage projects and flood protection measures being executed to mitigate erosion and flood risks.
Directions were issued to the Chief Executive Officer Ramban and officers of the Public Works Department to accelerate the pace of work and ensure completion within prescribed timelines.
