IIM Jammu hosts National Communal Harmony Week

JAMMU: IIM Jammu, along with IIT Jammu, hosted an event on Tuesday to celebrate the National Harmony Week (19-25 Nov’, 2021). The event was graced by Brigadier Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director, Sainik Sewa Board, as the Guest of Honor, and Prof. Ashoke K Sarkar, Dean Administration, IIT Jammu.
The event was also attended by Prof. B.S Sahay Director, IIM Jammu, Prof. Jabir Ali, Chairperson, MBA Placements, Prof. Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, MBA with other faculty members and students of both the institutes. The program began with a mesmerizing dance performance by students from both the institutes, followed by a play to deliver the message about cultural harmony performed by IIM Jammu’s Drama Club.
Prof. Sahay said, “India is a great country with a lot of diversity, and harmony is imperative to make India the finest country. India is important to us and that nothing else matters. India is in the first place. Forever and eternally.”
The Guest of Honor, Brigadier Gurmeet Singh stated that communal harmony is core for survival. He stressed that in order to eradicate the vestiges of hatred, one must be the change. Prof. Ashoke K. Sarkar averred that celebrating communal harmony is not enough and efforts should be made to preach it as well.
Prof. Jabir Ali expressed that the heart oversees caste and religion while making relationships. He went on to quote Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, saying, “Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well”.
