Three held with over 23-gm heroin-like substance in RS Pura, Gharota

JAMMU, Mar 5: Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested with over 23 grams of heroin-like substance in RS Pura and Gharota areas here, a police official said.
In one of the operations at Puro Bhana Chowk in RS Pura area on March 4, a team of RS Pura Police Station intercepted two persons for checking, he said.
However, on seeing the police, he said, the duo attempted to escape, which raised suspicion.
According to him, the suspects were accordingly chased and apprehended.
During questioning the accused identified themselves as Atul Choudhary of Village Puro Bhana, Tehsil RS Pura, and Mohammad Saleem of Village Chak Mohammad Yar, Tehsil RS Pura, he said.
During their personal search, the police official said, 16.71 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, a case FIR number 49/2026 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station RS Pura and further investigation taken up to uncover the forward and backward linkages of the drug network.
Meanwhile, in another operation at Kangar Morh area on the Ring Road under the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota, the police official said, a Royal Enfield Bullet bike (JK02DQ-2531) coming from Mishriwala side towards Nagrota was signaled to stop.
However, the rider tried to flee but was chased and apprehended by the police team on duty, he said.
During his search, around 7 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered, he said.
Accordingly, the accused, identified as Sohit Sharma alias Kaka of Dhaleri, Narayana Khour in Akhnoor tehsil of district Jammu, was arrested and booked in case FIR number 27/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Gharota, with further investigation set into motion.
