JAMMU, Mar 11: Acting quickly, the administration in Anantnag district dismantled an illegal encroachment on a land belonging to Kashmiri Pandit community in Akoora village of tehsil Mattan today.
Following the resentment shown by the members of KP community and Ganesh Shaivshakti Asthapan Akhoora, the administration acted quickly to remove the encroachment from the area by pressing a JCB machine, officials of various departments, police and security forces. The demolition drive was monitored by senior officers.
Earlier the Kashmiri Pandits and local Asthapan Committee had proposed a protest demonstration here, today. However after the removal of the encroachment the proposed protest by the community at the Press Club, Jammu, was converted into a grand thanksgiving event. The shift in programme followed swift and decisive action by the UT Administration earlier this morning to vacate illegal encroachments at the sacred 10th Day Kriya Ghat, Akoora (Mattan).
Reports reached the assembled gathering that an encroachment squad from the Irrigation & Flood Control Department with men and machinery reached the site this morning. The team successfully evicted the encroachers and dismantled the unauthorized bridge (culvert) constructed over the Trout Nala, restoring the sanctity of the Kriya destination.
