District Hospital Pulwama, Gandhi Nagar busiest

Srinagar, Mar 11: Peripheral healthcare institutions across J&K are handling over 9.9 lakh patients every month, underlining their central role in healthcare delivery across both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions, according to official data.
The data shows that district hospitals, sub-district hospitals and community health centres functioning under the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir recorded a combined average monthly patient footfall of 7,39,864 during 2024-25, while similar institutions under the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu recorded a total monthly footfall of about 2.5 lakh patients.
In the Kashmir division, District Hospital Pulwama recorded the highest average monthly patient footfall at 46,391 patients, making it the busiest peripheral healthcare facility in the Valley.
It is followed by District Hospital Kulgam with 37,000 patients, SDH Sopore with 33,300, JLNM Hospital Srinagar with 32,500, SDH Pampore with 32,124, SDH Tral with 30,615 and District Hospital Budgam with 30,000 patients every month.
Several other hospitals also handle substantial patient loads, including SDH Kupwara with 26,275 patients, SDH Pattan with 24,657, CHC Hajin with 20,057, SDH Tangmarg with 18,853, Emergency Hospital Qazigund with about 17,000 and District Hospital Bandipora with 16,750 patients every month.
Hospitals such as SDH Chadoora with 12,550 patients, CHC Yaripora with 12,000, SDH Dooru with 11,377, SDH Magam with 11,250 and SDH Khansahib with 13,200 patients also record significant patient turnout.
Other facilities include CHC Uri with 7,795 patients, SDH D H Pora with 7,800, SDH Rohama with 6,811, SDH Shangas with 6,069, CHC Langate with 5,580, CHC Chandoosa with 5,281 and SDH Dawar Gurez with 2,485 patients every month, reflecting varied patient loads depending on population and location.
The data further indicates that 1,120 doctors are sanctioned across peripheral institutions in Kashmir, resulting in an overall doctor-patient ratio of about 1:22.
District Hospital Pulwama has the highest sanctioned strength of 65 doctors, followed by JLNM Hospital Srinagar with 63 doctors, SDH Sopore with 57, SDH Kupwara with 46 and District Hospital Ganderbal with 45 doctors.
Similar data for hospitals falling under the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu also highlights substantial patient loads across district and sub-district hospitals in the division.
Among these institutions, District Hospital Gandhi Nagar recorded the highest average monthly patient footfall at 20,531 patients, followed by District Hospital Poonch with 19,985, District Hospital Samba with 19,226, District Hospital Kishtwar with 14,870, SDH Akhnoor with 14,450 and SDH Sarwal with 13,700 patients every month.
Hospitals such as District Hospital Ramban with 11,580 patients, CHC R S Pura with 11,120, SDH Mendhar with 11,100, SDH Ramnagar with 9,525, SDH Sunderbani with 9,450, SDH Hiranagar with 9,100, SDH Nowshera with 8,700 and SDH Bishnah with 8,328 also report notable patient turnout.
Several hospitals record moderate footfall including SDH Chenani with 7,709 patients, EH Vijaypur with 7,000, SDH Bhadarwah with 6,250, CHC Marh with 6,000 and CHC Ramgarh with 6,000 patients every month.
At the lower end are remote facilities such as CHC Mahore with 2,600 patients, CHC Sohanjana with 2,473, CHC Khour with 1,850 and SDH Warwan with an average monthly footfall of 655 patients, while SDH Padder records about 926 patients, reflecting sparse population and difficult terrain in far-flung areas.
