BHADERWAH, Mar 13: In a tragic road accident in the mountainous Doda district this morning, a cop and his wife were killed while their two sons were injured near Basti Pul Nalthi in Bhaderwah.

Sources informed that Head Constable of J&K Police, Zulfikar Ali along with his wife and two sons were moving towards their home in Louaang village of Bani in Kathua district in a car of Alto make bearing registration number JK08Q-0669 when all of a sudden the driver lost control over the vehicle which plunged into a 250 feet deep gorge and landed in a rivulet near Basti village.

Immediately after the accident locals and cops along with others started a rescue operation and retrieved all the persons onboard the car and shifted them to Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah where the Head Constable Zulfikar Ali, 47, son of Ab Latief, resident of Lawang, Bani and his wife Rehana Begum were declared brought dead.
The two injured were Arshad, 24 and Kamran, 20, both sons of Zulfikar Ali.
Expressing grief over the untimely death of HC Zulfikar Ali and his wife in a tragic road accident, SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta informed that Ali was posted in District Doda and was performing his duties in District Special Branch (DSB) Bhaderwah.
The SSP described Ali as a dedicated and hardworking cop who served the department with utmost sincerity and commitment and made significant contributions, particularly in the fight against drug abuse and other social evils.
When asked about the reasons behind the accident, Mehta said that investigations were underway and only after the completion of these the exact reason for the mishap will be ascertained.
SP Bhaderwah Vinod Sharma informed that Police has taken cognisance of the accident.
The injured were later on shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for specialised treatment.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic road accident in Doda district. He conveyed his condolences to the family of Zulfikar Ali, Head Constable, J&K Police. Zulfikar Ali and his wife Rehana Begum died in the accident.
The Lieutenant Governor prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
Meanwhile, Union MoS, Dr. Jitendra Singh has expressed shock over the tragic accident.
On social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), he posted: “Just now spoke to DC Doda, Krishan Lal, after learning about the tragic road accident near Basti village of Bhaderwah, in which unfortunately, a Head Constable of Jammu & Kashmir Police Zulfikar Ali and his wife lost their life. Their two children, also travelling with them, got injured but are out of danger. All possible assistance being provided. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.”
