HARIDWAR, Mar 13: A state-of-the-art Zebrafish and Drosophila Research Laboratory was inaugurated here today at Patanjali Research Foundation by renowned scientist Acharya Balkrishna.
Senior scientists, researchers and representatives from various departments of the organisation were also present on this occasion.
Owing to their genetic resemblance to humans, Zebrafish and Drosophila have become prominent model organisms in biomedical investigations.
Speaking on this occasion, Acharya Balkrishna emphasised that India’s ancient Ayurvedic tradition holds a vast reservoir of knowledge, which must now be validated through modern scientific methodologies.
He also said that Patanjali is undertaking the work of restoring India’s timeless wisdom and its golden era, and presenting them to the world with evidence, using modern research techniques.
Through this newly established laboratory, scientists at Patanjali will be able to conduct in-depth studies on the impact of Ayurvedic formulations on metabolic disorders, neurological diseases, inflammatory conditions and cancer.
Head Scientist, Dr. Anurag Varshney highlighted the importance of the Zebrafish and Drosophila models in modern biomedical research. He stated that its transparent body enables researchers to directly observe and analyse biological pathways within the organism in real time.
At Patanjali Research Foundation, extensive research has already been conducted using various animal models including Rats, Mice, Hamster, Guinea pigs, and Rabbits.
A handout stated that the newly established Zebrafish and Drosophila facility will serve as a collaborative platform for scientists from these fields, facilitating comprehensive, interdisciplinary studies on the effects of Ayurvedic medicines.
