Gold, silver ornaments worth Rs 26.75 lakh recovered

JAMMU, Mar 14: Police today claimed to have solved two theft cases reported on consecutive days in the Bagh-e-Bahu area and arrested the accused while recovering stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 26.75 lakh from his possession.
A police official said the cases were registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu following two theft incidents reported on February 14 and 15 under FIR numbers 13/2026 and 14/2026 under the relevant sections of the BNS.
He said during investigation, police examined the crime scenes, sought assistance from the Forensic Science Laboratory and analyzed the CCTV footage from nearby areas.
By tracking the suspect’s movements and conducting local enquiries, he said, police identified and arrested one Mohammad Shabir of Kilyal Billawar at present Qasim Nagar, Jammu.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing both thefts on consecutive days, the police official said.
He said on the disclosure of the accused, police recovered the stolen gold and silver ornaments from a place where they had been concealed. According to him, the recovered items were later identified by the complainants and seized as per the legal procedure.
In FIR number 13/2026, the police official said, gold ornaments weighing 6.4 tolas worth Rs 11.75 lakh were recovered, while in FIR number 14/2026, gold ornaments weighing around 9.5 tolas valued at Rs 15 lakh were retrieved.
Out of the total stolen property worth around Rs 31 lakh, police have successfully recovered items worth Rs 26.75 lakh so far and efforts are underway to retrieve other stolen items, added the police official.
Pertinently, the entire operation was carried out under the supervision of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, SP South, Dr Ajay Sharma, SDPO East, Sachit Sharma and SHO Bagh-e-Bahu.
