LEH, Mar 15: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena conducted an inspection visit to the main market area of Leh and the heritage precincts of Leh old town to review civic infrastructure, sanitation and heritage conservation.
During the visit, Saxena walked through the streets and by-lanes around Leh main market and adjoining heritage areas, including Chuteyrantak and the Central Asian Museum, assessing the condition of public amenities and cleanliness. Interacting with local residents and shopkeepers, the LG listened to their grievances and assured them of prompt redressal.
Directing officials to take concrete measures, Saxena asked the concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive action plan within one month to address sanitation, infrastructure improvement and urban management issues in Leh town.
Emphasizing the aesthetic value of the town’s commercial hub, Saxena described Leh Main Market as a beautiful marketplace with a unique character and instructed authorities to introduce a uniform design and signage system across the market area.
To ensure better sanitation, the LG ordered regular cleaning of drains and timely removal of garbage so that wastewater flows freely without obstruction. He also directed the installation of dustbins at designated locations throughout the market area to prevent littering and maintain cleanliness.
While inspecting Leh old town, Saxena instructed officials to improve the approach road to the Central Asian Museum and give the area a more visually appealing look. He further directed that drainage channels passing through Old Town be widened and properly structured to prevent overflow onto the streets.
Highlighting the need to preserve the region’s cultural identity, Saxena stressed promoting traditional architectural styles in new constructions in the old town area. He also directed that exposed electrical wires be secured and gradually shifted underground along with sewage pipelines to enhance safety and improve the town’s appearance.
The LG was accompanied by Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, DGP Mukesh Singh, Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioner Leh, SSP Leh and the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Leh.
