Recognise displaced Pandits as victims of terrorism: Front

JAMMU, Mar 17: The Victims of Terrorism Front has expressed concern over the continued neglect and discrimination faced by the Kashmiri Pandit community, severely affected by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. For over three decades, thousands of Kashmiri Pandit families have lived as internally displaced persons after fleeing their homes during the peak of terrorism.
Talking to reporters here, today the representatives of the organisation asserted that KPs be formally recognised at par with other victims of terrorism, fair compensation for abandoned properties comprehensive policy for justice, rehabilitation, and economic upliftment. They also demanded that the online portal of grievance for migrants needs to be make functional.
The organisation urged the Government of India and Jammu & Kashmir to address these issues, emphasizing that justice and dignity can no longer be delayed.
The press conference was addressed by Dilip Pandita, president, Victims of Terrorism along with Ashwani Kumar and other members.
He said the recent appointment orders issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to the kiths and kin of victims of terrorism in Kashmir Valley are a welcome step, but it is unfortunate that the real victims of terrorism, Kashmiri Pandits, are being ignored.
He said the rising death rate in Jagti Township needs to be investigated, judicial probe be held into the 1989–1990 exodus, revision of monthly cash assistance, construction of 2,000 additional quarters in Jagti township,
Government jobs and self employment schemes for 5,000 youth of the Kashmiri displaced people, improved security measures and transparency in residential clusters, Justice and dignity can no longer be delayed,” Pandita stated.
He also demanded monthly outreach in camps at Jammu, issuance of legal heir certificates and EWS/RBA certificates, expedited disposal of pending cases, one-time amnesty for rectifying migrant data, special employment package for displaced youth and implementation of central sponsored livelihood schemes.
