LEH, Mar 17: In a proud achievement for the Union Territory, Maqsuma Banoo, a B.Com 4th semester student of Government Degree College Kargil, has secured a Medallion for Excellence in the Beauty Therapy skill at the India Skills Regional Competition 2025–26.
The Medallion for Excellence recognises participants who perform exceptionally beyond the top three ranks—gold, silver and bronze. The regional competition witnessed participation from around 330 contestants representing nine States and Union Territories across 63 skill trades.
This marked Ladakh’s debut at the regional-level competition, where it fielded six candidates across three trades—Beauty Therapy, Graphic Designing and Fashion Technology. These participants were selected as top performers from the UT-level India Skills competition.
Winning a medallion in its first appearance highlights the rapid progress of Ladakh’s skill development initiatives. The region has established 16 skill centres across seven higher education institutions, strengthening opportunities for youth.
The Ladakh contingent expressed gratitude to the Ladakh Skill Development Mission and the college for providing training support and exposure. Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary, appreciated the team and reaffirmed continued support for nurturing local talent. The IndiaSkills Competition, organised by the National Skill Development Corporation, remains a premier platform for vocational excellence.
