JAMMU, Mar 17: In a significant step towards bridging the gap between academia and industry, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), J&K Council, and the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing student employability and fostering industry-oriented skills.
The MoU was signed by Prof Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu, and Khurshid Maqbool Dar, Director, CII J&K Council, in the presence of Prof Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Dr M A Alim, Chairman, CII J&K Council, and faculty members.
The agreement seeks to establish a collaborative framework for equipping students with entrepreneurial knowledge and industrial competencies relevant at both national and international levels. It will facilitate initiatives such as curriculum design, industrial visits, workshops, and symposia, aimed at aligning academic learning with industry requirements.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sanjeev Jain reiterated the University’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals. He said the collaboration reflects CUJ’s focus on producing graduates who are industry-ready and capable of contributing meaningfully to the economy through practical exposure and understanding of industry practices.
Dr M A Alim highlighted emerging technologies and evolving workforce needs in local industries. He underscored CII’s ongoing initiatives and assured support in strengthening the industry-academia interface. Notably, Dr Alim played a key role in conceptualizing and steering the collaboration, ensuring alignment with both academic excellence and industrial relevance.
Khurshid Maqbool Dar emphasized CII’s role as a facilitator, stating that the organization will leverage its network to connect CUJ students with appropriate opportunities and expert guidance.
Prof Yashwant Singh expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen entrepreneurship and start-up culture among students. Prof Jaya Bhasin welcomed the initiative, while D Shahid Mushtaq noted that the MoU would complement CUJ’s existing skilling ecosystem, including its incubation centre, CUJ Site Council.
The event witnessed participation from faculty members and was coordinated by Prof Jaya Bhasin and Dr Shahid Mushtaq.
