JAMMU: Long distance runner from Jammu and Kashmir, Kulbir Singh won Bronze medal in the 50 kilometers World Marathon Championship, which was organized by International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
Kulbir has secured overall 15th place and was third among the Indians after he finished the 50 kilometers run in 2;57:32 hours thus earned the Bronze medal.
However, the event was dominated by the British runners with Naomi Robinson winning the gold and Katrina Ballantyne securing Silver in women’s race. The team gold went to Poland, reports reaching here informed.
Tirtha Kumar Pun was at 10th spot to bag first place among the Indian athletes after first six positions went to Great Britain, Japan and Canada.
“Kulbir is a very talented long distance runner J&K has ever produced. He has got the ability and stamina to excel at the international stage. He deserves appreciation and support for this distictive achievement,” said retired SAI Athletics coach, Ramesh Sharma.
