JAMMU, Mar 18: The JDGD Saraf Trust today announced the winners of ‘The Conscious Voice Essay Award 2025’, an all-India essay contest on the theme “A Century of Courage: Reflections on Journalism and Public Service in J&K.”
The online contest drew entries from students across India representing diverse academic backgrounds.
Rohan Nagra was awarded the First Prize, while Himanshu Chib secured the Second Prize.
Both will receive award certificates along with their cash prizes.
Additionally, Certificates of Excellence were awarded to Aniket Gupta, Arnav Kumar Gautam, Ishween Kour, Mohammad Suhaib, Sudhanshu Khullar and Tanisha Kohli for commendable work.
All eligible participants received e-Certificates of Participation.
The award was launched in December 2025, at the time of reprint and e-book release of ‘Fifty Years as a Journalist’, the autobiography of ‘Lala Mulk Raj Saraf’, regarded as the Father of Journalism in Jammu & Kashmir.
It also commemorates over a century since Saraf started ‘Ranbir’, J&K’s first newspaper, in 1924.
Speaking on the occasion, RachnaVinod, Trustee of the JDGD Saraf Trust said, “We aim to nurture the next generation of conscientious journalists and encourage young minds to engage with the critical questions facing media today. The depth of thought demonstrated by students across the country was promising.”
The Trust, founded in 1985 by Lala Mulk Raj Saraf, works to preserve journalistic heritage, support emerging journalists and media ventures and advance media entrepreneurship.
