Awareness campaign ‘From Plastic to Eco-Friendly Bags’ held

JAMMU, Mar 20: Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, in collaboration with the J&K Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) and the Department of Education, organized an awareness campaign on the theme “From Plastic to Eco-Friendly Bags” under the banner of 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC Jammu.
The programme aimed to sensitize students and the community about the harmful effects of plastic usage and to promote eco-friendly alternatives such as jute and cloth bags. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets, students, and faculty members.
Major Praveen, AO, 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC Jammu, graced the occasion as special guest and highlighted the importance of disciplined efforts in adopting sustainable practices. An insightful lecture was delivered by Randeep Manhas, Scientist, JKPCC, who elaborated on the environmental hazards caused by plastic pollution and stressed the urgent need for collective responsibility.
Adding a creative dimension, NCC cadets prepared handmade eco-friendly bags and awareness placards, which were distributed among local shopkeepers and street vendors to discourage plastic use. The cadets also presented a powerful Nukkad Natak conveying a strong message against plastic usage, followed by an awareness rally in the Gandhi Nagar market area.
The event was held under the patronage of Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour, who reiterated the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Dr Neetu Raina, Head, Department of Education, also encouraged students to adopt eco-conscious lifestyles.
Faculty members present included Prof Parihar, Dr Liakat Jafri, Prof Sarita Dogra, Lt Prof. Suman Bala, Prof Neeraj Sharma, Dr Rippy Bawa and Dr Rekha. The programme was efficiently coordinated by Lt Prof Rukhsana Kousar, ANO and concluded with a pledge to minimize plastic usage.
