For nearly a decade, Dubai has been the rhythm of my daily life, the city where ambitions grow as steadily as the desert skyline. It is a place where innovation rises from the sands, where cultures from across the world converge, and where the impossible often feels merely like the next project waiting to be built. From its bustling financial districts to its serene desert horizons, Dubai embodies a spirit of optimism and opportunity that continues to inspire those who call it home. It is within this dynamic landscape that I began shaping my journey as an educational entrepreneur building ideas into institutions, and vision into impact.Yet my roots lie far away in the mountains and plains of Jammu and Kashmir, where resilience is not just a virtue but a way of living.
A land where nature speaks in its most breathtaking forms. Snow-capped peaks rise against clear blue skies, rivers carve their paths through ancient valleys, and vast meadows burst into colour with the arrival of spring. In Jammu and Kashmir, nature is not merely scenery; it is a living presence that shapes daily life, instills patience, and reminds its people of the enduring rhythm of renewal.
Growing up between the valleys of Kashmir Valley and the rugged hills and plains of Jammu, one learns early that uncertainty can arrive without warning. For decades, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have lived at the crossroads of history and geopolitics. Yet despite repeated tensions across the Line of Control, the region has continued to demonstrate a remarkable culture of resilience. Life in the region has taught generations that geopolitical tensions may disrupt routines and alter the rhythm of daily life, but they do not stop life altogether.
Today, thousands of miles away in Dubai, many members of the Jammu &Kashmir diaspora draw upon those very lessons. Amid the conflict and uncertainty surrounding the tensions between Iran and the alliance of United States and Israel and the resulting regional anxiety residents from Jammu and Kashmir living in the Emirate have responded with calm and perspective.Like the more than Two hundred fifty nationalities that call the United Arab Emirates home, the J&K diaspora stands in solidarity with the Emirates, reflecting the spirit of resilience and trust that defines life in the country.
Members of the community contribute across sectors from trade and tourism to education and healthcare helping sustain the vibrant economic and social fabric of the city. Even as tensions escalate and the reality of missile and drone attacks reaches closer to home, daily life in Dubai continues though now with a heightened sense of awareness. Sirens, alerts, and disrupted travel plans have become part of the backdrop, yet people still go to work with a positive attitude and hope , children cheer and play in the parks, and cafés fill up in the evenings as residents gather not just to socialize, but to reassure one another.
In times like these, the strength of a city’s diverse community becomes unmistakably clear. Conversations grow more meaningful, kindness feels more deliberate, and a shared sense of humanity rises to the surface. For many expatriates from Jammu and Kashmir, resilience is not a dramatic act but a quiet practice embedded in everyday life. It is reflected in the decision to carry on with normal routines, to trust the systems that safeguard the city, and to maintain hope even during uncertain times. In many ways, resilience becomes the unspoken language of daily life linking distant mountains to a global city, and reminding us that even in moments of tension, the human spirit continues to move forward.
So when the night sky over Dubai briefly filled with the distant sounds of air defence systems responding to threats linked to tensions involving Iran, it felt like two worlds I know intimately had suddenly intersected. For a moment, the calm certainty of the Gulf seemed touched by the kind of anxiety that people in conflict-prone regions understand too well. At moments like these, my thoughts often turn to home to the quiet resolve that people across Jammu and the Kashmir Valley display in the face of uncertainty.
Over the years, India’s leadership and institutions have been tested by numerous crises, yet the country has consistently demonstrated an ability to maintain stability across an extraordinarily diverse and complex landscape. That collective resilience shaped by strong governance, responsive security institutions, and a determined citizenry becomes a source of reassurance for Indians living abroad during uncertain times. It also brings to mind the enduring words of Sam Manekshaw: “Bravery is not the absence of fear, but the ability to face it.”
Yet even as thoughts drift toward home, another feeling remains equally strong – a deep sense of solidarity with the country that has given us so much. In moments of uncertainty, the spirit of unity that defines the United Arab Emirates becomes especially meaningful for those who live and work here. It brings to mind the words of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who reminded the nation during these challenging times that “in the United Arab Emirates, everyone is Emirati through their love for this land and their contributions to it.” Those words strengthen our resolve and deepen our sense of belonging to this remarkable country.
Dubai in particular has offered opportunity, safety, and dignity to millions of expatriates. For thousands of us from Jammu and Kashmir , the city has not only been a workplace but a second home where dreams once considered distant have become reality. That sentiment has become even more visible during the crisis, with community groups stepping forward to help others distributing meals, volunteering in support initiatives and assisting stranded travelers. In a city built by migrants, resilience is part of its DNA. For the millions who call Dubai home, the choice to stay is less about defiance than about trust – trust that the systems around them will hold, and that the city that gave them opportunity will continue to endure. These acts of solidarity reflect a broader reality of the UAE’s social fabric: a diverse population united by shared reliance on stability and governance.
Recently, I had the chance to dine at an Iranian restaurant and later share coffee with colleagues at a small Iranian café. In both places, the warmth and generosity of the owners stood out. When I gently asked how they felt about the current situation and their lives in Dubai, their response was deeply moving. They spoke of their longing for peace in their homeland, while expressing sincere gratitude for the safety and stability they have found here. That interaction stayed with me. It was a simple yet powerful reminder: one day, when the dust settles, we may come to realize how little we truly need, how much we already have, and just how invaluable human connection really is.
During moments of regional tension, the instinct to return home naturally crosses the mind. But staying here, continuing with work, and trusting the systems that protect this city is also an expression of loyalty and gratitude. The calm and swift response of authorities in Dubai has reinforced the confidence residents place in the country’s leadership and preparedness.
Resilience, after all, is something people from J&K understand deeply. It is the ability to remain steady when circumstances are uncertain, to trust leadership during difficult times, and to keep communities united. And perhaps that is the shared thread between the homeland we miss and the home we have built here: the belief that calm leadership, collective responsibility, and human solidarity can carry societies through even the most testing moments.
In moments when uncertainity casts its shadow across borders, the true strength of nations and communities reveals itself. For the thousands of expatriates from Jammu and Kashmir living in Dubai, these days have been a reminder that even amid distant echoes of conflict , life can continue with dignity . Amid sirens and uncertainity ,life in Dubai moves forward with quiet resolve. For as India’s great minds have always reminded us by reiterating the timeless words of Rabindranath Tagore:
“Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them.”
Perhaps it is this very courage that keeps cities alive even in troubled times- the simple steadfast belief that beyond every shadow of conflict, humanity will continue to choose hope.
