IEI Jammu, JJM mark World Water Day with focus on ‘Water and Gender’

JAMMU, Mar 22: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre, in collaboration with Jal Jeevan Mission India (JJM) and the Jal Shakti Department, J&K, celebrated World Water Day with the theme “Water and Gender”.
The programme witnessed participation from engineers of various departments, organizations, senior professionals, and members of the IEI Jammu Centre committee.
Anjali Sehrawat, Mission Director, JJM, graced the occasion as chief guest, while Anil Verma, Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre, presided over the function. Earlier, Avneet Gupta, honorary secretary, IEI Jammu Centre, formally declared the seminar open and emphasized the significance of World Water Day, particularly the theme highlighting gender dimensions in water management.
In his welcome address, Anil Verma highlighted the remarkable progress of JJM in J&K, noting that nearly 15-16 lakh rural households have been covered with water supply by 2025-26.
A technical lecture was delivered by Reyaz Bhat, Technical Advisor to the Mission Director, who presented key achievements and statistical insights related to the Jal Jeevan Mission in the Union Territory.
The seminar also featured presentations by BL Rawal, Gopal Sharma, Ranjeev Sawhney and Joy Ganjoo, who shared their perspectives and research on the theme “Water and Gender”.
Addressing the gathering, Anjali Sehrawat called upon all stakeholders to treat World Water Day as a “call for action” to ensure that women are no longer solely burdened with water management responsibilities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Rita Rehan, Executive Engineer, PHE (Mechanical), Udhampur.
