JAMMU, Mar 23: Braham Jyot Satti, President of BJP OBC Morcha, Jammu & Kashmir, today pointed out inconsistency is issuance of OBC certificates and depriving the OBC population residing in urban areas of J&K from availing constitutional safeguards and welfare benefits.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP Head Office, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, raised serious concerns over non issuance of caste certificates to certain OBC communities, namely Teli, Potter (Kumhar), Dhobi, and Barber in urban areas. He pointed out that these communities are currently being issued caste certificates only in rural areas of Jammu & Kashmir, whereas in the rest of the country, these castes are recognized and issued certificates in both rural and urban areas.
This inconsistency, he said, has deprived a large section of the OBC population residing in urban areas of J&K from availing constitutional safeguards and welfare benefits.
Satti strongly demanded that the term “Rural Only” be removed from the Central List of OBCs for these communities at the earliest, so that eligible individuals living in urban areas can also receive due benefits without discrimination.
Highlighting economic concerns, he further emphasized the need to revise the creamy layer income limit for OBCs. He suggested that the existing limit of Rs 8 lakh should be increased to Rs 12 lakh in view of rising inflation, increased cost of living, and evolving socio-economic conditions.
He also stressed the need to make the process of issuing OBC caste certificates more flexible and accessible. He suggested that recommendations from registered community Sabhas should be considered sufficient for granting caste certificates, thereby simplifying procedures and reducing delays.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment, Satti stated that the BJP always stands firmly with OBC communities and expressed hope that all the issues raised would be resolved at the earliest.
Besides BJP Media Secretary, Dr Pardeep Mahotra, BJP OBC Morcha office bearers, including Sunny Sangotra, Ashok Salgotra, Shivali Khangar, Ashok Pandey, Vinod Choudhary and Ram Paul were present in the press conference.
